It’s that time of week again. You are about to get ready for the biggest night out of the year. Everybody will be there. After stepping out of the bath and putting on your favourite radio station. Disaster! Your hairdryer has decided to go on strike. Well it’s time to wrap yourself up and go on a mission to find a kind soul who will lend you their pride and joy….. Never again I hear you say.
Now you need a new hairdryer, you can go to the local Wall Mart or ASDA and pick up a dryer for $25 (£20) or you could spend the extra few pennies and get a blow dryer that will last and NOT let you down when you need it most. As mother used to say, “buy cheap – buy twice”
There have been a lot of advances in the hair and beauty trade over the last few years, gone are the days a “one size fits all” blow dryer. We now have the secrets the hair stylists were keeping to themselves.
Below are some things to bear in mind when looking for a new hair dryer.
Motor
The power of a hair dryer is measured by the size of it’s motor, motors are categorised by the amount of electricity they use measured in watts. Most hairdryers are a minimum of 1400watts these days but you may find the occasional 500w or 750w travel dryer. I wouldn’t even think of having anything less than 1000w in my house as it would not be powerful or hot enough for most needs.
Concentrator nozzle
The width of the outlet varies widely
A slim outlet is the usual nozzle that comes with any standard hairdryer; this small opening really focuses heat and air pressure giving a very fast drying experience.
Using a thin nozzle can hurt your hair if concentrated on one area for too long so make sure you evenly dry your hair without focusing too long in the same area. If you find your blow dryer is getting too hot too fast, think about upgrading to a wider nozzle.
Rapid cool
Ever wondered why your hair look great when you finish styling but given an hour and it looks like Frankenstein has styled your hair? Hot hair looses shape quicker, if you add a quick blast of cool air during the last few moments your style will hold much longer
Ionic
Here comes the science bit.., no really it has been said that the new range of Ionic Hair dryers be the end of frizzy hair caused by static electricity, protect the hair during drying and even bring a luscious sheen to your styled hair. The air flow is passed over an electric current and this alters the positively charged ions in the air that can cause problems.
Ceramic
Ceramic hair dryers use the same material as the brakes on European super-cars (just in case you need to explain to you partner why you need them). Ceramics evenly distribute heat and keep a constant temperature from start to finish. This gives a more even finish and means a shorter drying experience.
Tourmaline
You may have heard of the new Tourmaline T3 hairdryer super blow dryer. This is a ceramic ionic dryer that infuses the negative ions from when over the tourmaline stones, the amount of negatively charged ions is dramatically increased. That means you get a professional looking style in a fraction of the time.
Removable air filter
If your hairdryer has a removable filter, please clean it frequently as a build up of dust and debris can hinder the motor and put real strain on your dryer. You don’t have to get out the pipe cleaners every time you use it, just be aware that a large build up will dramatically reduce the efficiency of your dryer.
Hair Care Products
Now matter how good your hair dryer is or how much you spend, heat applied to your hair will cause damage. So you need to use some heat protection. There are many kinds and brands of heat protection
